Shohei is a member of James Sewell Ballet. He began dancing in 2002 under the tutelage of Miyako Kato and eventually performed for her company, Miyako Kato Dance Space, in Tokyo, Japan. In 2006-2007, he studied at The Ailey School in NY, under a one-year grant from the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan. He received his BFA in Dance from Sam Houston State University. While attending SHSU, he started working with NobleMotion Dance as one of its founding members. In 2012, he was featured in one of the photos from New York Times Bestseller photography book, Dancers Among Us by Jordan Matter. After graduating SHSU, he joined Hope Stone Dance in Houston, TX. He is currently dancing in Minneapolis where he performs with James Sewell Ballet. He has also performed as a guest artist with Dominic Walsh Dance Theater, Earthen Vessels (Sandra Organ Dance Company), FrenetiCore, Minnesota Dance Theatre, and Aimed Dance (Rednerrus Feil Dance Company).
He has performed both nationally and internationally in venues such as The Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Kennedy Center, Amazonas Theater in Manaus, Teatro Guaira in Curitiba, and Tokyo Metropolitan Theater. Shohei was named one of Houston Press’ 100 Creatives for 2013 and a recipient of a SAGE Award 2015 as an Outstanding Dancer Performer.
